Third Bear Press, an indie comics publisher and distributor run by Steven Ingram, a comic artist based in Scotland, are looking for comics and articles for Volume Four of their ongoing comic anthology, BOXES.
BOXES aims to showcase new, short works from the most exciting and interesting creators in indie comics, and, with this in mind, you should think about pitching short strips that wouldn’t look out of place in an up-to-date MOME or Drawn & Quarterly magazine.
Take a look at the comics they stock in their shop or what was included in BOXES Volumes 1, 2 and 3 to see the kind of work they like.
“We are looking for interesting stories with something to say,” Steven outlines. “We would like to see a wide range of genres and art styles. Nuanced story-telling is the most important thing what we want to see.”
Comics should be between four to eight pages in length. The page size will be B5 (176mm x 250mm). Full colour or black & white artwork will be fine.
Contributors will be paid. For comics, they are offering a base rate of £35 per page and for articles, a base rate of £0.10 per word. Each contributor will also get five copies of the magazine to keep or sell as they wish.
Submissions are open until Sunday 23rd February 2025. Read through the submissions guidelines and send in your ideas here: thirdbearpress.com/submissions
Volume Three of BOXES is available to preorder now, featuring strips from Asya Voitenko, Taran Taylor, Millie Strachan, Abs Bailey, Steve Thompson, Daniel Bell, Feff Silvers, J W Murray & Fran Morton, Savannah Storm, Elliot Hanks, KitsuneArt & Steven Ingram.
Third Bear Press bring English language comics from around the world and make them available in the UK. If you are an English language comic artist looking to sell your books in the UK, get in touch at thirdbearpress@gmail.com.
With the publishing side, they’re building a platform to amplify the voices of artists doing something a bit different.
