The current volume of David Lloyd’s digital anthology, Aces Weekly, includes a brand new “Velicity Jones” story, “The Hand of Glory”, written by Lee Robson, with art by Bryan Coyle.
This is the seventh Velicity Jones adventure, and it might be the best one yet (it’s a personal favourite of Lee’s, at least), and the adventure character’s return to Aces Weekly was accompanied by the publication of a short run daily newspaper strip-styled adventure, “The Blind God Affair”, on Lee’s Imaginary Stories site and across his social media.
“It was also, probably, the trickiest one to pull together, from a technical point,” Lee reveals. “It takes place in the immediate aftermath of the sixth story, ‘The Point Nemo Affair’ (as seen in Aces Weekly volume 62), but it’s not “Part Two of a two part story. The story we came up with had to happen in that specific time frame for it to work (one of the challenges of setting up the next story, like we do, is that it sometimes leaves some interesting story problems to solve down the line).
“People don’t have to read ‘The Point Nemo Affair’ before reading this one, but it would be cool if they did!”
In the new adventure, when Soviet general Danil Kalkin defects to the West, he brings with him the prototype of the fabled Hand Of Glory, a device, the Russians claim, that can remotely access any computer network in the world, allowing whoever possesses it to shape global politics to their whim!
Dispatched to retrieve the device before the US Government can get their hands on it, Velicity Jones finds herself in a deadly game of cat and mouse with rogue American agents, determined to do whatever it takes to get “The Hand Of Glory” – including murdering the world’s greatest secret agent! But both sides are unaware that Maksim Volkov, the infamous Russian assassin, has been ordered to retrieve the device at any cost…
Don’t miss out on “The Blind God Affair”
In addition to the new Velicity Jones for Aces Weekly, Lee and Brian have also just published a surprise eleven-part “Velicity Jones” story, a daily newspaper style strip called “The Blind God Affair”, that featured on Lee’s BlueSky and Mastodon accounts up until the launch of Aces Weekly #72.
“I’m planning a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the story on my Imaginary Stories site,” Lee tells us, “because of the odd way it came about. It was actually done ‘Marvel Method’, which was…interesting!”
