As announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Titan Publishing has revealed a major new publishing initiative celebrating the legendary works of Edgar Rice Burroughs, set to launch in Summer 2027, with a brand-new Dejah Thoris comic series.
Developed in collaboration with Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., this ambitious publishing program, announced during the Tarzan and John Carter of Mars Live! panel at SDCC, is designed to introduce both lifelong fans and new readers to the extraordinary worlds of one of history’s most influential adventure storytellers. Spanning a wide range of publishing formats, the initiative celebrates Edgar Rice Burroughs’ enduring legacy while bringing his timeless stories to a new generation of readers.
The incomparable Dejah Thoris, regal princess and treasure of the nation of Helium and all of Barsoom, as the Red Planet is known, is as intelligent and commanding as she is beautiful beyond measure. She first appeared as the title character in the initial Mars novel, A Princess of Mars, published in 1917.
“As leader of a scientific mission to chart the atmospheric density of Barsoom, she sought a way to rescue her dying world from climatological oblivion, only to have her flier shot down by the ferocious, four-armed green Martian warriors of the dead sea bottoms,” notes the ERB Official site. “Among her savage captors, she encountered an Earthman, John Carter, an unparalleled swordsman mysteriously transported to Barsoom, who would go on to take the mantle of Warlord of Mars and, after many death-defying challenges, win the hand of his beloved Princess of Mars.”
Titan’s new publishing program will include new paperback editions of the Edgar Rice Burroughs Authorized Library, previously unfinished works, illustrated books, original comics, and omnibus collections, offering fresh ways to experience Burroughs’ iconic creations.
The program will be available through bookshops, comic shops, and digital retailers worldwide.
The creator of the immortal characters Tarzan of the Apes and John Carter of Mars, Edgar Rice Burroughs is one of the world’s most influential authors. Mr. Burroughs’ timeless tales of heroes and heroines transport readers from the jungles of Africa and the dead sea bottoms of Barsoom to the miles-high forests of Amtor and the savage inner world of Pellucidar, and even to alien civilisations Beyond The Farthest Star. Burroughs’ books are estimated to have sold hundreds of millions of copies, and have spawned 60 films and 250 television episodes.

Edgar Rice Burroughs was a trend-setter extraordinaire! His work started so much. Tarzan led to innumerable “jungle” comics especially in the 40s and 50s and John Carter of Mars most famous derivative was DC comics “Adam Strange” in Mystery in Space which utilised the same basic idea of an Earthman transferred to an alien planet. Dejah Thoris might even have been the first “good girl art” candidate. The reach of Burroughs work is simply enormous
Presumably this will be the first comic strip adaptation of the John Carter novels to be originated in the UK since ‘The Martian’ appeared in Sun comic during the 1950s.
