Alongside some incredible music memorabilia, there are a huge number of items of interest to downthetubes readers in Ewbank’s Entertainment, Memorabilia & Movie Props auction taking place today, Thursday 19th August 2021, starting at 9.30am.
They include several lots of both British and US comics, including Eagle, Marvel UK comics including Star Wars Weekly, comic and TV comic storyboards credited to Dan Dare creator Frank Hampson, Doctor Who film front of house lobby cards, James Bond, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars props and other memorabilia… and much, much more.

Star Wars related Front of House cards/stills including Star Wars (1977) x 6, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) x 10, all 10 x 8 inches.
Planet of the Apes interest – a collection of comics and magazines including four Marvel Planet of the Apes UK edition comics, Nos 1, 6, 7, 15, Lee’s Guide to Planet of the Apes, ‘The Ape’, 12 x The Ape Chronicles fanzine, 6 x Simian Scrolls.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) British Quad film poster, artwork by Bob Peak, Paramount, folded, 30 x 40 inches.
Star Wars (1977) Two Harley Copic colouring posters, both part coloured, rolled, 17.5 x 22 inches
A mixed lot of Star Wars comicsIndiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) original blueprint of the Flying Wing, entitled ‘General Arro of Mock Up Aircraft for Lost Ark Productions’, with notes as to how the aircraft needed to come apart to be below up and be operated, the Flying Wing was created for the scene where Indiana Jones fights the Nazi mechanic who is trying to load the Ark onto it, folded, 46 1/2 x 33 inches. Consigned by the family of a crew member who built the plane.
Time Bandits (1981) Original colour transparency of the film poster, co-written, produced, and directed by Terry Gilliam, 8 x 10 inches.
Spider-Man / Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger British Quad film poster, folded, 30 x 40 inches and Front of house cards – Sets of 8 cards for The Kung Fu Girl and Hatari, 10 x 8 inches (17).
Clive Barker (1952) English playwright, novelist, film director, and visual artist, an original sketch and signature on card. 22 x 30 cm. Signed at Forbidden Planet in 1989.
Frank Hampson (1918 – 1985) British illustrator, 10 comic and TV comic storyboards from 1950-1951 including Dan Dare (Eagle), Prudence Kitten, Bingo Bango and Bongo, Jeff Arnold, Riders of the Range (Eagle), printed scenes on board with hand painted gouache, all approximately 16 x 13 inches. (10)Stan Lee – autographed lenticular postcard showing covers of comics Stan Lee worked on, in framed display, 12 x 17 inches overall.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
