After the success of the graphic novel project, Sherlock Holmes And The Empire Builders, both on crowdfunding and through the direct market, Tripwire Comics Presents is building on this with its first art book: Into White: The Art Of George Pratt.

The London-based publisher is seeking support for the project on Kickstarter now, and has smashed its £5000 initial target just days into the crowdfunding campaign.

George Pratt is an award-winning artist, painter, illustrator and photographer, who drew extensively in comics in the 1990s but for a number of reasons, has moved on to gallery work and to teach at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida as a member of staff of its Illustration Faculty. He cemented his reputation in comics on projects such as DC Comics Enemy Ace: War Idyll, Batman: Harvest Breed and Marvel’s Wolverine: Netsuke.

He is a recipient of the Eisner Award for his graphic novels, a Spectrum Gold Medal in 2002, and Best Feature Documentary at the New York International Independent Film Festival for the documentary film, See You In Hell, Blind Boy, released in 1999.

In recent years he has expanded his work to include figurative painting and portraits.

George has attracted prominent fans over the years, including the late, great illustrator, Mark English. “My friend, George Pratt, has it all,” he said. “He has craftsmanship, draftsmanship, plus the need and the motivation to be an artist. That’s what it takes. I think a serious artist is always searching for something, but rarely knows what. That ‘something’ can’t be found by just thinking, though. It’s found with exploration and hard work. George is constantly drawing, painting, observing, experimenting and reaching further which is what makes him exceptional. I’m always excited to see what new ground he is breaking.”

Clocking in at 200 pages, Into White: The Art Of George Pratt is to be published as a 9 x 12 inch hardcover, designed by George himself, with a paperback version available, and the Kickstarter campaign offers a range of exclusive perks, like unique brush and pen and ink drawings, limited prints, as well as signed plated editions of the hardcover.

Art from published comic projects is also being lined up to feature, although the Art Book will focus more on George’s own works.

Into White: The Art Of George Pratt is a lavish paperback and hardcover, offering a cross section of the artist’s unique oeuvre,” Tripwire Comics Presents editor-in-chief Joel Meadows explains. “With the popularity of Holmes, and thirty plus years of Tripwire celebrating artists and illustrators, this next step makes sense for us as a company.

“He has built up an incredible body of work that includes portraiture, landscapes, figure work and also some exceptional comic work,” Joel continues. “Pratt is an artist who transcends a number of different genres and disciplines so we felt he would be the perfect subject for our debut art of book.

Into White marks a new era for Tripwire, and we are excited to share this with our supporters.”
