Titan Comics have revealed more details about The Lost Fleet: Corsair Issue #1 – including all the covers and interior pages from this new military SF release, which launches in June in all good comic shops.

(Bias declaration – this is one of the books I’m editing for the company, and it’s proving a great title to work on).

Authored by John Hemry writing as Jack Campbell (author of the New York Times best-selling The Lost Fleet novel series and much more), it’s illustrated by André Siregar (Martian Comics, Severa) inked by Bambang Irawan, coloured by Sebastian Cheng (The X-Files, Orphan Black) and lettered by Jim Campbell.

The Lost Fleet is a military science fiction series of eleven internationally best-selling novels so far written by Jack Campbell. (A prequel series, The Genesis Fleet, launches with Vanguard in May from Ace Books).

Lost Fleet: Corsair is set shortly after the end of a century-old war between two space empires, the Alliance and the Syndics. It centres on the story of Captain Michael Geary, who has been missing in action after the Syndic ambush recounted in the fist Lost Fleet novel, Dauntless, that almost destroyed the space fleet John “Black Jack” Geary had to get home, against all odds.

Forming an uneasy pact with rebel Syndics led by Destina Aragon, Michael Geary sets out to save not only fellow prisoners but their jailors, too – on the run from a government chafing at defeat and determined to crush any uprising! Can he live up to the legend surrounding his family name “Black Jack” Geary has carved – or will he die trying?

“It’s a bit of a dream come true [to be writing this series],” John Hemry told Dynamic Forces last year when the book was first announced. “I grew up reading comics, seeing the integration of story and images to create something more than just the sum of both.

“The opportunity to create work in that medium, to try to bring to visual life the words in the Lost Fleet novels, is a wonderful challenge. But it’s also the fulfillment of those youthful daydreams when I tried to imagine that I might someday participate in creating comics. If I had to sum up how I feel, I’d use one word: lucky!

“Michael Geary is the grand-nephew of John ‘Black Jack’ Geary,” John says of one the series major characters. “As the legend of Blackjack was used to inspire the Alliance fleet in an apparently endless and unwinnable war, those descended from his family were expected to fulfill the role of a Geary in the war no matter the cost.

“Michael grew up in the shadow of his great-uncle’s heroic legend, knowing he would be expected to live up to it or die trying. Many in the family have died as a result of that legacy. Michael Geary, like his sister, had risen to command of a major combatant (the Alliance battle cruiser Repulse) and in an echo of his grand-uncle’s last fight had sacrificed his ship to help the rest of the fleet escape a trap.

“No one in the Alliance knows whether or not he survived that fight, but he was taken prisoner by the Syndicate Worlds and has been secretly held since then.”
