American adult animated science fiction sitcom Rick and Morty, created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Cartoon Network’s late-night programming, is heading to Channel 4 in the UK.
Producer Turner is “creating a branded destination” for Adult Swim content in the UK, and Channel 4 will exclusively air the fourth season of the hugely popular Rick and Morty as part of a new deal to bring the cult show to British TV, although an air date has yet to be announced.
The previous three seasons of the acclaimed animation will be shown on E4 from the start of February.
E4 will also launch an Adult Swim hour block with shows including Robot Chicken: The Walking Dead Special.
Revolving around the adventures of the members of the Smith household, particularly the eccentric and alcoholic mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his 14-year-old grandson, Morty, the series premiered in December 2013 in the US.
The adventures of Rick and Morty take place across an infinite number of realities, with the characters travelling to other planets and dimensions through portals and Rick’s flying car.
With an average of 26.1 deaths per episode, the much-loved animated show, which also aires on Netflix, is considered the ‘deadliest’ out of any show across streaming platforms – and its fast-established cult status quickly spawned spin-off comics, games and more.
Adult Swim announced a long-term deal with the creators in May 2018, ordering 70 new episodes over an unspecified number of seasons, in addition to the three seasons comprising 31 episodes already aired.
Rick and Morty‘s arrival on Channel 4 is just part of a deal that will see hundreds of hours of Adult Swim content being made available to stream for free on All 4.
A hit in the US and on Netflix, the show has delivered Adult Swim’s highest ratings in history and helped the show claim the title of number one comedy across all of television for 2017 with millennials.
