A high quality copy of the 1978 Terry Nation’s Dalek Annual has attracted some unusually high bidding in the latest Phil-Comics auction.
Part of a collection of high grade annuals in this week’s auctions that may never have been read, or at least hardly had any handling, current bidding stands at over £50.
Originally released in September 1977 by World Distributors, the annual features a mix of originated text stories, a reprint of two TV Century 21 “The Daleks” stories combined as one and titled as “Rogue Planet”, and numerous features.
Offered as a VFN/NM example of the release, it’s one of around 90 annuals that are being offered in the current auction, which closes on Sunday. Unless otherwise stated they have no writing or pen/pencil marks and the price has not been clipped.
Some original art from the annual by an uncredited Paul Crompton, for the story “The Castaway” was sold at Bonhams in 2013.
In his useful feature on all Doctor Who and Dalek annuals here on The New Zealand Doctor Who Fan Club web site, Paul Scoones notes a couple of illustrations for the text story, “Assassination Squad” were clearly based on pictures of Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford from the film All The President’s Men!
Run by Phil Shrimpton, Phil Comics specialises in vintage comics and related items such as annuals, holiday specials, free gifts and original artwork.
Holding monthly eBay auctions, often with 500+ listings, they aim to bring a diverse array of items – and are always on the lookout for vintage comic collections, either to buy or auction on commission.
As we previously reported, a small parcel of mainly 1970s comics were recently gifted to the company, so they will be donating 100% of the bid price for them to NHS charities. They are the first 16 listings in the 365-strong auction catalogue this week.
