Limited edition Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland artist’s proofs go on sale

Over on his Comic Art Web Site, artist and screen printer John Patrick Reynolds has released a limited edition of his new Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland prints, from the brilliant original drawings by John Tenniel.

Just three designs are available, all artist’s proofs, the first screenprints pulled to test the colour separations, offered at £100 the set or £45 each, each one measuring 38cms deep x 28cms wide.

The final proper prints will cost £75 each, so these are being offered at quite a saving.

“I’ve printed the main subject of each image in black, spot-coloured them and coloured the background in the same ink,” John explains. “The intended effect is to emphasise the character but tie them firmly into the overall picture.”

Based in London, John was the first screenprinter to get permission from Britain’s top comic publisher, DC Thomson, to use images from its archive of British comic characters from The Beano’s Dennis the Menace, The Bash Street Kids and Minnie the Minx to The Dandy’s Desperate Dan and the Sunday Post’s Oor Wullie and The Broons.

He’s also the only screenprinter in the UK to work with French publisher Editions Albert Réné to make screenprints of its characters Asterix, Obelix, Getafix and Idefix, not forgetting the dog Dogmatix.
