2021 opening planned for Disneyland’s “Avengers Campus” Attraction

Disney has informed members of its D23 Club that the Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure is now expected to open sometime in 2021, possibly third quarter.

No specific date has been announced, which is understandable given the ongoing global impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

(Disney’s California Adventure Park has been closed since April 2020 and they have not made any announcements on when a reopening will commence. At the moment, their Downtown Disney District is in a phased reopening for guests).

The US Avengers Campus, originally scheduled to open last July, is a six-acre location that takes guests through a superhero training facility where they can meet Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Black Widow and Thor.

It will be located near the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, replacing the A Bug’s Life-themed A Bug’s Land.

Avengers Campus is part of a larger story that extends to Hong Kong Disneyland – where the attractions Iron Man Experience and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! Have already been open – and Disneyland Paris, where an Avengers Campus is also planned to open in 2021.

Aiming to be “a living, breathing land” the Campus has been designed in a forward-looking way, to incorporate not just Marvel films that have already been released, “but stories yet to be told.”

The attractions in the US, France and Hing Kong have been developed by Walt Disney Imagineering, in collaboration with Marvel Studios and Marvel Themed Entertainment.

Detailed here on the D23 site, the Campus includes an outdoor Doctor Strange show with special effects and projects and the Spider-Man Adventure ride has visitors helping Spidey against spider-bots.

The attraction’s dining location, the Pym Test Kitchen and Pym Tasting Lab cocktail bar, which will consist of advanced technology to change the size of the food.

At this stage, it’s not been stated that the new Avengers Campus attraction will open when Disney California Adventure reopens, or if it’ll launch later in the year.
