The organisers of Macclesfield-based comics event Macc-Pow – due to taken place have reluctantly announced in June – has again been postponed, until 2022.
“We had hoped to not make this decision twice, but it’s been decided that MACC-POW! will be postponed until June 2022,” says organiser and comic creator Marc Jackson.
“It wasn’t an easy one to make, but there was no way to plan and organise the event we wanted during these crazy times.”
The MACC-POW team aren’t the only event organisers who are still adapting their plans to the ongoing Pandemic, of course.
Our list of upcoming comic events across the UK and Ireland has just been updated and it is very clear that while organisations like ELCAF, the Lakes International Comic Art Festival and Thought Bubble are planning physical events later this year, for example, all are conscious that COVID-19 restrictions may continue through the year and are planning accordingly, with virtual events always a fall back after their success last year for some.
In place of a physical event, MACC-POW! At Home will return in June, with a series of live online interviews with cartoonists and creators from around the world.
Then, in September – COVID pandemic easing permitting, of course – MACC-POW! MINI will host a number of free public, real world events (yes, not online) comics and cartoon art workshops in Macclesfield.
“So, all is not lost!” Marc says. “This is our way of keeping the event alive and safely navigating the rest of the year, to then go full-steam ahead to deliver the best MACC-POW! so far next year. Stay tuned for more info soon!”
