The Beano launches mischievous new app

The Beano has launched the first in a series of new apps for fans of its characters, following in the fottsteps of Egmont’s TOXIC to reach its computer and device-savvy readership.

The Dennis & Gnasher’s Prank Sticker app, available now for iPhone and iPad is described as “the ultimate menacing photo app” which allows kids to add humour and fun to photographs by choosing from a library of over 100 themed stickers inspired by The Beano’s sense of mischief which can be dragged, pinched and twisted to shape and are designed for fans to save to their photo streams.

The Beano Editor-in-Chief Mike Stirling said, “This is what The Beano is all about – pranking, jokes and fun. In the last couple of years, we launched The Beano iPrank on iTunes and the response was fantastic with over 12.5 million plays. This new app means that no photography is safe from being menaced!”

John Freeman

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.

He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
