Film director Ben Wheatley turns 2000AD script droid!

This week’s 2000AD, Prog 2467, sees the launch of two new stories. The first is a series set in Judge Dredd’s world, as acclaimed film director Ben Wheatley (A Field in England) makes his debut in the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic with “Judge Dee”, drawn by Simon Coleby.

The series follows a Psi-Judge working in Mega-City One as she goes about taking on crime… oh, but also? She has a demon possessing her.

Don’t forget you can read Karl Stock’s interview with Ben in this month’s Judge Dredd Megazine, published last week, revealing the influence 2000AD had on him growing up and his interest in comics.

Also launching this week is three-part story, “Money Shot: High Stakes”, by the team of Kek-W and Rob Richardson. Accountant Carla works both sides of the law, but her newest gig finds her working for some surprising clients… and it’s going to lead into a confrontation with a familiar face in Prog 2468!

No spoilers here – you’ll just have to wait and see who turns up!

JOHNNY RED’S LAST BATTLE

In the last year of a long and dreadful war, as vengeful Russian forces reach the German frontier, British-born fighter pilot Johnny Redburn leads Falcon Squadron in deadly strikes against the retreating Nazis. With all his comrades gone and his lover, Nina Petrova, lost somewhere in the maelstrom, the “Red Devil” knows his own doom is only a matter of time. Maybe the next mission, or the one after that – but it’s coming.

When a figure from the distant past reappears with an offer of a clandestine operation – an all-out effort against a nightmarish enemy weapons program that could claim the lives of thousands – Johnny finds himself agreeing, despite terrible misgivings. The risks are many, but the prize is the whereabouts of the woman he loves – and Johnny Red will fly through hell for Nina Petrova, no matter what the cost. Yet the unspeakable cruelty of the Soviet hierarchy, not to mention the return of an old and lethal enemy, will push the Englishman’s resolve well past the breaking point. High above the freezing Arctic Ocean, one last aerial duel will decide who lives, who dies – and who is lost forever.

Written by Garth Ennis (The BoysPreacher) and drawn by Keith Burns (Battle ActionOut of the Blue), A Couple of Heroes brings the saga of Johnny and Nina – the Red Devil and the Angel of Death – to its fiery, action-packed conclusion
