Entry Wounds, a political eco thriller comic from writer Paul Goodenough and artist Ian Stopforth, is being released in an updated collection next year from The 77 Publishing. Currently seeking crowdfunding support, it’s hit its initial Kickstarter target, but there’s still time to support this powerful thriller from two top British comic talents.
Entry Wounds // Children of War is a graphic novel bringing to light civilisation’s fall, as climate breakdown and geo-politics collide. In this powerful story, alongside teenagers from across Britain, Azure is conscripted as a border force agent, tasked to stop the unending hoards of climate migrants.
You may have caught the serialised version of this eco-thriller comic in The77 anthology, debuting as “Extinction 2040”, but Paul and Ian have updated the story for the collection, adding new material, and Ian has repainted a lot of the art.
Just like tales such as Pat Mills and Alan Mitchell’s Third World War, which first ran in Crisis, Entry Wounds has a strong political edge, exploring the human and societal impacts of climate change, borders, and militarised youth that will resonate with many right now.
There are several new Rewards on offer: a personalised mini story featuring a character of your choice, a haiku or limerick to accompany your book, a personalised tour and meal at the world famous Frontline Club (the undercover/war journalist members club), and signed books from Leo DiCaprio, Ian McKellen, Cara Delevingne, Peter Gabriel, David Mack, John Wagner and many more.
The collection has garnered support from 2000AD creator Pat Mills. “Great to see a comic with a political edge,” he said earlier this month. “There are probably others I’m not aware of, but Third World War is the only one I can recall. I wish it well!”

The Creative Team
Paul Goodenough is an Emmy-nominated and award-winning writer, filmmaker and entrepreneur – working across broadcast, comics, digital, games and publishing with over 1/2bn views a year across socials and broadcast.
Paul is also the founder of Rewriting Earth, a global storytelling project uniting 300 activists, celebrities, scientists, comedians and more across the planet to create stories to raise the money and awareness to save multiple species from extinction. They’ve helped save over 625 species, reached over half a billion people, and generated over 1.3m signatures to enact global and national policy changes.
Paul is a notable collaborator, co-writing and producing stories with creators including Taika Waititi, Cara Delevingne, Adam McKay, Idris Elba, Richard Curtis, The McCartneys, Beckhams, Ricky Gervais and many, many more.
He’s also a best-selling author in his own right with credits including the The Most Important Comic Book On Earth (a Sunday Times Book of the Year), Sherlock Holmes, 2000AD, Doctor Who, How To Train Your Dragon, alongside a host of writing for international comedians.
Paul is also the designer and founding member of BAFTA Albert (calculator and sustainability accreditation used by Netflix, NBC Universal, Warner Bros, BBC, IMG, Sky etc) and an ambassador for Sea Shepherd, World Land Trust and Naturewatch Foundation.
Ian Stopforth is a highly sought after UK-based contemporary comic book artist and illustrator known for his intense, atmospheric, and thought provoking artwork.
He’s a prominent creator within the modern British independent comic scene including for The ’77, with Paul Goodenough on “Extinction 2040”, and with Steve Bull on “DOA”, and “V” in The77 Annual. For This Comic is Haunted, he worked on the urban horror strip “Horace Moss Clearance Expert”, written by Jo Heeley, producing unsettling and macabre images for this continuing horror tale.
Ian works across both digital and traditional mediums, earning praise for his exceptionally intense visual storytelling. His portfolio includes intense acrylic and watercolour portraits, fine pencil studies, and vibrant pop-culture fan commissions ranging from Doctor Who and The Punisher to Batman and Judge Dredd.
77 Publishing is an award-winning independent British comic book publisher. Founded in 2019 by Ben Cullis, Dave Heeley, Steve Bull, and Jo Heeley, the company specialises in sci-fi, horror, and classic British-style anthology comics, often funded via Kickstarter. They are prominent figures in the UK indie comic scene and regular sponsors of the Lawless Comic Con.
Titles include: The77 Comic, their flagship sci-fi anthology series, BLAZER!, a retro-style comic and annual reminiscent of 1970s British weeklies by Steve MacManus. They also published the late Ian Gibson’s Lifeboat, a graphic novel series currently being continued by artist Anna Morozova.

John is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.
