Vital Publishing launch their first trade paperback, Force Majeure, this week on Sunday 25th October 2015 – and it’s a perfect book for those that like their comics to go bump in the night.
This is the collected issues of School Of The Damned, a small press comic that has built up a loyal following over the past two years, set in 1930s Germany where, with the rise of Nazism, we must ask – who really are the monsters?
Not only does it feature Nazis, but also many of the monsters that were caught in a celluloid jam, such as Nosferatu, Frankenstein, Hyde and Medusa, so it’s a perfectly apt piece of reading for those venturing out on All Hallow’s Eve. It also features a few lovely nods to the original horror movies of the 1930s with more than a passing nod towards Tod Browning’s Freaks.
The trade paperback also hosts a number of behind the scenes features such as full gallery of the covers, script to art sketches, artist roughs and a few other specials for the discerning reader. One of my personal favourites is 2000AD artist Alex Ronald’s cover to Issue 5. It is hard to believe that art this good has been created on a laptop and tablet.
The official launch is at City Centre Comics, so if you are close to this Glasgow supplier of comic goodness on Sunday, I recommend popping along to support Vital Publishing, support the shop and perhaps even pick up a copy of the trade paperback.
