2000AD Prog 1988

Something For The Weekend: New Comics On Sale (w/c 4th July 2016): Cybermen and Small Press Day!

2000AD Prog 1988

Alongside the latest issue of 2000AD – and if you’re a fan of Gerry Anderson’s UFO, you’ll love the opening episode of the new “Scarlet Traces” story – be sure to be ready to pick up the superb collection of Judge Dredd: The Cursed Earth Uncensored, out next week but trailed in the Prog, along with the new collection of Monster ripped from the short-lived Scream comic. (ABC Warriors: Return to Ro-Busters is out on 14th July, too).

Despite the arrival of the utterly brilliant “Scarlet Traces“, Prog 1988 is a little slow-moving for me, with “Judge Dredd” hitting a bit of a lull before the action really kicks off (there’s been a lot of set up in this story, so the pay off had better be pretty spectacular!). I’m sorry to see the final chapter of the latest Slaine epic, because this story has been on heck of a ride.

Over at Titan Comics there’s just one release this week – but it’s a big one. This is the launch of the London-based publisher’s summer Doctor Who event starring the Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctors – Supremacy of the Cybermen – and Issue One is an all-out frenzy of set up, wild scenes (Dinosaurs! Cybermen! Karn! Time Lords!) that, if you’ve not picked up yet, you really, really should. Alternatively, hold off until Saturday and check out what you local comic shop is doing to mark Doctor Who Comics Day, and buy it then.

This week also sees the release of this month’s books from Cinebook, including a cracking-looking new Largo Winch adventure, 20 Seconds, by Francq and Van Hamme.

Small Press Day 2016

Scroll down for more spotlights on new comics focusing on British creators and publishers… and don’t forget that Saturday is all Small Press Day – find out more at smallpressday.co.uk or by following the event here on Twitter @SmallPressDay!

Thanks to the publishers, First Age Comics and Forbidden Planet for this week’s information.
