Action Figure Toy Collection including Star Wars, M.A.S.K. figures and more to be sold for over £100,000 next week

A collection of modern, plastic toys to be sold at Vectis Auction House next week (Tuesday 9th March 2021) is expected to sell in excess of £100,000

The collection is mainly made up of small-scale action figures many people will remember from the 1980’s – 1990, including Masters of the Universe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thundercats, Visionaries and many more. There are Action Man and LEGO items too, as well as one lot that includes Captain Scarlet and Thunderbirds jigsaws and another offering a mixed lot of copies of 2000AD, from Prog 1000 upwards.

  • Mattel 1981 Masters of the Universe series 1 He-Man figure
  • Mattel 1981 Masters of the Universe series 1 Skeletor figure
  • Kenner M.A.S.K MASK Boulder Hill Play-set
  • Lego Star Wars set number 6212 X-Wing Fighter
  • Kenner Star Wars vintage Boba Fett 3 3/4" figure
  • Mixed lot of jigsaws including Captain Scarlet and Thunderbirds jigsaw puzzles
  • Palitoy Action Man vintage Belt Feed Machine Gun
  • Kenner Batman The Animated Series Batcave Command Centre Playset
  • Mixed lot of 2000ADs, from Prog 1000 onwards

The majority of the collection are graded and display sealed (to prevent wear or deterioration) and is from one single owner who has carefully curated the collection, buying the best they could find.

“The interest we have seen in modern toys, in particular Action Figures is increasing,” notes Nick Dykes, TV & Film Specialist at Vectis. “In particular those from the 1970, 80’s and 90’s in excellent order have recently recorded four figure sums for a single piece.”

Included in the sale is a Mattel Masters of the Universe He-Man figure on the original backing card estimated pre-sale at £2500 – £3000. One of the most popular characters, most children would have ripped open the packaging straight away to play with the toy. Therefore, to find it in un-played with condition and the fact that the plastic bubble the figure is in has no discolouration (which can affect some carded toys from this period) makes it highly desirable.

It is not just Action Figure that are seeing an upturn in prices but the vehicle and accessories too are becoming much more collectable. A Kenner MASK ‘Boulder Hill’ Playset still in its original packaging (all important) has a pre-sale estimate of £500 – £1000.

The Action Figure sale is to be held on Tuesday 9th March and will attract a worldwide audience on the Vectis live platform which has seen a huge increase in traffic since the start of the pandemic.
