The latest issue of The Jester, the long-running magazine for members of The Cartoonists’ Club of Great Britain is out now, an “All at Sea” edition that includes a smashing interview with cartoonist Ian Ellery, whose long career also encompasses computer games, greeting cards and character design.
A former Chairman of the Cartoonists’s Club, Ian, whose early games work included graphics for The Stainless Steel Rat and The Pettigrew Chronicles, recounts how his career led him to working in titles such as Computer and Video Games, and his time as Studio Manager for the Character Licence Illustration Company (CLiC). He was the first cartoonist to work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles merchandise in the UK, and created Emlyn the Gremlin for CBBC.
It’s a fascinating and wide-ranging interview, and it’s good to hear Ian is busy working new range of self-published colouring and activity books.
Also this issue, Mark Warby has written an affectionate tribute to the late Daily Mirror and New Scientist cartoonist Bill Tidy, who died earlier this year, and alongside cartoons from members, responding to a previous appeal for material with a fishy flavour, current chairman Rich Skipworth offers more tips on using Procreate.
Established on 1st April 1960, The Cartoonists’ Club of Great Britain is the UK’s largest and oldest cartoonists’ organisation.
Providing a social base for cartoonists wherever they may live/work, the CCGB is open to all cartoonists and comic artists and has a membership of over 200 full and part-time cartoonists, both in the United Kingdom and abroad.
Many of the great names from the British cartoon fraternity have been members of the CCGB since its founding. The club has been responsible for organising many local, nationwide and international cartoon events.
Each month, members receive a copy of the Club’s magazine The Jester, which is packed with cartooning-related articles, news, tutorials, and info about upcoming events.
Members also have access to advice forums and online portfolios.
