French comic creator Anouk Ricard (2024)

Anouk Ricard is a comic strip illustrator and author, born in 1970 in the South of France. She graduated from the Arts-Déco in Strasbourg in 1995, and began publishing in the children’s press when she was spotted by Olivier Douzou, who published her first book with Editions du Rouergue. In 2004, she began working in comics, with Anna et Froga, a humorous children’s series for Capsule Cosmique magazine, which has been republished in English by Drawn & Quarterly.

Shortly afterwards, at the request of Requins Marteaux, she began writing another more adult humour series, Commissaire Toumi, for their magazine, Ferraille. Both series are published by Sarbacane.

Ricard has also published other comic books, both short and long, in a humorous vein, for Gallimard, Cornélius, Arte/Casterman and 2024. Her 2022 book, Animan (Éditions Exemplaire), a surreal comedy inspired by 1983 series Manimal, received the Special Jury Prize at Angoulême 2023.

She has also worked in illustration for both the press and children’s publishing, as well as for painting/drawing exhibitions and micro-publishing magazines. In particular, she collaborates with éditions l’Articho, for whom she has produced a card game, a fanzine and a collection of her various digital works.
