Episode 7 of the Awesome Comics Podcast is sliding up your alley today. Hosted by Vince Hunt (Red Mask From Mars) Hunt, Dan Butcher (Vanguard) Butcher and Tony Esmond (the hairy and annoying one) this episode has as its guest indie creator and Lovecraft expert Chris Lackey.
The boys talk in depth about Chris’ graphic novel Transreality, a melon twisting comic about the nature of identity in a complicated future digital age. What makes a person a real individual if they are disconnected from their physical self? ? What happens when you discover that everything you have known is in fact a cyber created reality? If you could just delete your program would you? And would you have sex with a pink lady gorilla?
Originally from Silvis, Illinois, Chris, who lives in West Yorkshire, which he describes as “a beautiful place to call home”, has been a filmmaker, animator, podcaster and graphic novelist. He has been doing his own podcast, The HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast (with Chad Fifer) for over four years.
We also get a bit of Fantastic Four talk, some sado masochistic femme fatales in Mean Girls Club from NoBrow Press (reviewed by Tony here on downthetubes), some Warren Ellis love and some webcomic chat. Vince still refuses to reveal why he is known as ‘Jester Diablo’ and Dan baffles the hosts with the word ‘solipsism’.
You also get a boat load of reviews and recommendations in the small press UK scene as well as a calendar of upcoming signings and conventions.
The winner of two tickets to the Nottingham Comic Convention is also announced.
So, if you don’t mind a bit of bad language and simian sex talk have a listen.
