The Birmingham Comics Festival returns to Britain’s second city with events being scheduled to take place throughout April. Yet again Edgbaston Cricket Stadium will plays host to a spectacular one day gala convention as part of the festival, and it will take place on Saturday 23rd April.
The following guests are officially announced:
Jim Alexander – Award-winning writer whose work includes Birds of Prey, Star Trek Manga, the Judge Dredd Megazine, Metal Hurlant and more
Asia Alfasi – Award-winning graphic novelist currently working on Juha: The Tales of Sheik Nasruddin and Native Narratives: Libyan Folk Tales
Ryan Brown – Cover artist for 2000AD and other publishers including Dark Horse, Titan, IDW and Marvel.
Mike Collins – Artist for both the Doctor Who TV series and magazine, plus 2000AD, Star Trek, Superman, the graphic novel series Varg Veum and many more
Ian Edginton – Writer on Steed & Mrs Peel for IDW, Aliens for Dark Horse, Batman for DC, Star Trek for Marvel, and many series for 2000AD
Hunt Emerson – Cartoonist for The Beano and VIZ, plus graphic novels Dante’s Inferno, Casanova’s Last Stand and Lady Chatterley’s Lover
Leigh Gallagher – Artist on The Witching and Justice League Unlimited for DC, and various series for 2000AD
David Hine – Writer on The X-Men: Civil War and Daredevil for Marvel, Detective Comics and Green Lantern for DC, plus Spawn and Storm Dogs for Image
Laura Howell – Creator of The Bizarre Adventures of Gilbert & Sullivan, whose work has appeared in The Beano, TOXIC, Mad and the Regular Show (check out a preview of the latest issue of the latter here)
Staz Johnson – Artist on King’s Road for Dark Horse, Batman/Aliens and Catwoman for DC, Wolverine and Spider-Man for Marvel plus many more

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
