Here’s our latest list of new comics on sale this week, focusing largely on new comics and graphic novels on sale in comic shops and as usual, highlighting those featuring the work of British and Irish creators and British publishers, including 2000AD, which is another cracking issue (Prog 1962, that is, not next week’s which I inadvertently plugged here earlier…).
Over at Titan Comics, the Twelfth Doctor’s “Year Two” has also kicked off to a great start, as I mentioned yesterday. Robbie Morrison and Rachael Stott are working on a year-long arc of stories and this latest tale has all the hallmarks of both classic and modern who rolled into one darn fine package. Plus, there’s Johnny Red #3 – another great episode from this all-action series.
On the US side, out this week is a collection of Terminal Hero from Dynamic Entertainment, written by 2000AD veteran Peter Milligan with interior art by Piotr Kowalski. A story from one of the comic industry’s most groundbreaking writers, it’s a tale of psychic powers gone awry, and one man’s terrible battle with his own inner demons!
UK Comics – Newsagents Spotlight
As usual, don’t forget that despite some British publishers lack of faith in full-blown cover to cover comic strip action and humour, there are still comics on sale in newsagents that still delight in bringing you such subversive delights, including The Beano, Commando (latest release intel here), Judge Dredd Megazine, Panini’s superhero titles, Titan Comics superhero titles and VIZ, with great strips also featuring in titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Doctor Who Adventures, Titan’s Doctor Who Comic (collecting their strips from the US format titles) Mega, Tales from the TARDIS, TOXIC and many others.
Plus, the wonderful Phoenix Comic is now on sale in many (but not all) Waitrose supermarkets and – at last, selected high street WH Smiths stores – and some comic shops (stockist list here) as well as available on subscription.
Draw The Marvel Way – Out now in all good newsagents
Don’t forget Hachette, the British publisher of titles such as Doctor Who: The Complete History and Judge Dredd: The Mega Collection and launches How To Draw The Marvel Way from today, available in all good newsagents.

John is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.
He’s the writer of comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
