The regularly updated downthetubes “rolling list” of major British and Irish comic conventions and other gatherings and signings, intended as a quick guide to “What’s On”. We sometimes include illustrators events where we know comic creators will be present. Follow the links to event web sites for fuller details.
The growing size of this British and Irish comic events page has meant we have had to split our Exhibitions guide onto a new page on downthetubes. Information on events and venues is always welcome.
Last Updated: Wednesday 12th February 2025
Information is very welcome!
Thank you to everyone who has supplied information and apologies if I haven’t added your event yet. Please do also check out our Events News and Exhibition News news streams
As ever, information about events is welcome: here’s how to contact us. If you don’t see your date added to this list, please re-send the information as it’s entirely possible, given the huge amount of email received, that we’ve missed it first time around – sorry!
Please do not assume we will see a convention announcement on Facebook, Twitter or other social media.
Where no date is listed, we have where possible based an event’s dates within the usual month they have taken place in previous years. Where event web sites have not been updated in months, we are now removing what appear to be “dead” events from the “dates not yet announced” sections of this page.
Please note: The inclusion of an event as “Not Yet Announced” is generally because of a similar event the previous year. It does not mean that event will be repeated

GOSH Comics Signing: Alan Clark and Nick Neocleous
1.00 – 2.00pm Saturday 8th February 2025
GOSH Comics, 1 Berwick Street, London W1F 0DR
A comics legend visits London’s GOSH Comics on Saturday 8th February 2025, from 1-2pm! Former comic publisher Alan Class, alongside author Nick Neocleous, will be signing Secrets of the Unknown, published by Moonage Books, the result of a successful crowdfunding campaign last year. The book is now on general release, available from comic shops, including GOSH, and AmazonUK (Affiliate Link)
For 30 years between 1959 and 1989, Alan Class single-handedly produced American reprint comics for the youthful masses in the United Kingdom. His uniquely formatted square bound comics appeared every month in most of the newsagents up and down the country. But who was this elusive man? Finally, at 87 years old, he has related his story to Nick Neocleous of Moonage Books and all the secrets of his publishing empire are now revealed. Along with many cover reproductions and facts and data about publishing and distributing comics through the 1960s and beyond.
Alongside the copies of the book, a special Issue 250 of Creepy Worlds is being launched and will be available to purchase on the day.
You can pre-order a signed copy of Secrets of the Unknown from GOSH Comics website for mail-order or collection here | Keep up to date with all GOSH events on their Facebook event page

World Book Day 2025
Thursday 6th March 2025
Libraries, schools and other venues across the globe | Web: worldbookday.com
World Book Day, supported in the UK by National Book Tokens, was created by UNESCO on 23rd April 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland took place in 1997 to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading. As World Book Day founder, Baroness Gail Rebuck, recalls “We wanted to do something to reposition reading and our message is the same today as it was then – that reading is fun, relevant, accessible, exciting, and has the power to transform lives.”
The mission of World Book Day is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income. We want to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them.

Cry When the Baby Cries Launch Party With Becky Barnicoat
7.00 – 9.00pm Thursday 13th March 2025 GOSH, 1 Berwick Street, London W1F 0DR
A launch party with Becky Barnicoat to celebrate her brand new book from Jonathan Cape, Cry When the Baby Cries! Becky’s sincere, witty and compassionate account of parenthood. Here’s what Jonathan Cape say about the book:
A glorious antidote to parenting books, this darkly humorous, candid and insightful graphic memoir brings the early years of parenthood to life – in all their chaos, wonder and delirium.
Intimate, relatable and very funny, Becky Barnicoat explores everything from the anatomy of the hospital bag to the frantic obsession with putting your baby down drowsy but awake, to the tyranny of gentle parenting. From pregnancy to the feral toddler years, Barnicoat extends a sticky hand to all new parents grappling with the impossible but joyous jigsaw puzzle of their lives.
Barnicoat gives us permission to cry when the baby cries – and also laugh, snort, lie on the floor naked, drool and generally revel in a deeply strange new world ruled by a tyrannical tiny leader, growing bigger and more loved by the day.
Meet Becky and grab a copy of the graphic memoir. You can pre-order a signed copy from our website for mail-order or collection by clicking the link here.

The Cartoon Museum – Norman Pett’s Jane
6.30pm for a 7.00pm start Thursday 3rd April 2025 (NB date changed from 6th March) | Tickets £12 Adult
63 Wells St, London, W1A 3AE
Norman Pett’s Jane has been called the most popular comic strip of the Second World War and “the world’s first super-model, page three girl and pin-up”.
Yet she was also much more than this. In continuous publication between 1932 and 1959, Jane was the most popular comic strip to appear in the British tabloid the Daily Mirror. Combining confidence, irreverence and bravery with high glamour and sex appeal, Jane was a groundbreaking character that reached an audience of millions and held a particular appeal for the largely female audience to which the Mirror was targeted.
Join Adam Twycross, author of British Newspaper Strips: A Contextual History, for an evening celebrating this legendary series. With a chance to learn more about Jane’s secret history, original art on display, and a plethora of rare and unusual items, the evening will culminate with the first public airing in 80 years of an excerpt from a previously unknown Jane radio show, created exclusively for the British armed forces in 1945 and never heard in public since!

Dublin Comic Arts Festival – Autumn 2025
Late September in 2024
Richmond Barracks, Inchicore, Ireland
Web: dublincomicarts.ie | Support DCAF on Patreon
Small press comics can be a nebulous term in the comic book world. They can be as small as a photocopied zine and as big as Raina Telgemeier’s Smile. The DCAF generally use the term to mean creator-owned, independent comics. They can be handmade, self-published or released by small press publishers.
DCAF is a small press comic book event, created to showcase local comic creators and celebrate the spectrum of Irish sequential art. The small press comic scene has been growing in Ireland for years, but Irish comic creators often travel across the globe to find Comic Arts Festivals to exhibit their work. The team feel it’s time for some Comic Arts Festivals closer to home!
