British Comic Shop Comic Releases (29th October 2014) – Wolves and World War Two!

2000AD Prog 1905

Here’s a list of comics – both US and UK releases – on sale in specialist UK comic shops from tomorrow, Wednesday 29th October 2014, courtesy of First Age Comics, Lancaster. We’ve picked out the titles published by British publishers in bold below, or titles with a British connection we’re aware of.

Don’t forget that despite many publishers lack of faith in full-blown cover to cover comic strip action and humour, there are still comics on sale in newsagents that still delight in bringing you such subversive delights, including The Beano and Commando, with great strips featuring in titles such as Judge Dredd Megazine, Doctor Who Magazine, Doctor Who Adventures, TOXIC, VIZ and more.

2000 AD Prog 1905 (Rebellion)

There’s monstrous mayhem behind some horrifying Hallowe’en week cover art by the delightfully devilish Dave Kendall this week in 2000AD, also on sale in all good newsagents and through various digital platforms. “Judge Dredd” continues his role as Block Judge for Gramercy Heights, and is determined to bring the troublemakers to heel in a new story from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra; in “Stickleback – The Thru’Penny Opera” by Ian Edginton and D’Israeli, the master criminal is pulling the strings amidst the denizens of the capital’s underworld, and leads a gang of freaks, oddballs and semi-supernatural entities that have the city under their thumb.

Also this issue: Pat Mills and John Higgins continue with “Greysuit: Prince of Darkness” starring John Blake, a Delta-Class assassin working for a shadowy branch of British Intelligence. Given superhuman powers through extreme mental conditioning, Greysuits are feared for their ruthlessness. But Blake’s programming started to break down, and he became aware of what had been done to him. Brought back into the fold and reprogrammed, he has now been tasked with assassinating a cop…

Plus, don’t miss out on “Icabod Azrael – One Last Bullet” by Rob Williams and Mike Dowling, featuring an Old West outlaw killed by hired gunmen who found himself in the underworld — and tricked by a demon he now seeks revenge on all creation; or “Kingdon – Aux Drift” by Dan Abnett and Richard Elson, set on Earth, in the far future. Mankind has been all but destroyed, those still surviving forced into hiding by Them — insectile creatures that have taken over the world. Charged with protecting humanity are genetically engineered dog-soldiers like Gene the Hackman — savage warriors that patrol the wilderness, directed by Urgings from their Masters. Now, Gene has lead his pack to the mining outpost of Aux Drift, under attack by Them…

Doctor Who: Eleventh Doctor #4

Doctor Who 11th Doctor 4 (Titan Comics)

Alice Obiefune always wanted to see a space station – one of those proper ones, like on the telly, with impressive bulkheads, sweeping corridors and stunning views of eternity. Maybe with an exotic matter wormhole nearby, if it’s not too much trouble. Aliens optional, but a bonus as long as they’re friendly.

That’s just one of the reasons Alice and the Doctor have come to a remote space research facility.
The views are breathtaking… but so is the formless creature creeping through the station, stealing voices and inflicting comas on those research scientists unlucky enough to be caught.

Tracking the temporal trail of the slippery SERVEYOUinc corporation, has the Doctor found more than he bargained for? And will this entity from between the stars be the death of them all?

Writer Al Ewing (Loki: Agent of Asgard) and artist Boo Cook (2000AD, Elephantmen) ramp up the claustrophobia for a terrifying space adventure!

Lenore 11 - Cover

Lenore 11 (Titan Comics)

Someone’s going to die in this latest issue of Roman Dirge’s cult hit comic… After four issues it’s time for a death in the family. And we’re not talking about a case of mild death – you know, when a character comes back after a year or so, no longer dead. We’re talking dead-dead. Dead as a doornail dead, the pushing up daisies kind of dead. And Roman swears blind it’s sticking, “no one’s curing this dose of the deads,” said he, if we’d asked him and he’d said that in response.

But who will it be..?

Will it be Lenore, the titular star of the comic, or maybe Ragamuffin, her stalwart and loyal companion? Perhaps Death will come a knocking on the door of Pooty, the trident armed, bucket-headed demon from Heck, or maybe it’ll be the sinister, eons-old serial killer, Mr. Taxidermy – the self appointed protector of Lenore and children everywhere?

Or perhaps it’s that new, good-looking crew member dressed in the red shirt.

There’s only one way to find out…

Uber #19 - Cover

Uber 19 (Avatar Press)

Kieron Gillen has captivated the comics’ community with the horror and drama unfolding in the enhanced human warfare of World War Two.  As the war starts to slide in favour of the Nazis unstoppable Ubers, the Allies strikeout with a desperate gamble.  They can’t match the Uber Battleships one-on-one, but maybe they can use surgical strikes against the mounting tide. Join the legions of readers as the misery of super human warfare continues to unfold.  Available with Regular & Wraparound covers by Caanan White, Propaganda Poster cover by Michael DiPascale, and War Crimes and Blitzkrieg Incentive covers by Caanan White.

War Stories #2 - Cover

War Stories 2

No one captures the horror and misery of war like Garth Ennis.  The horrors of World War Two bomber pilots faced were so much greater than simply the enemy fire.  The mettle of a man gets tested in many ways in a conflict of that scale. Ennis proves time and time again that in battle it isn’t the technology or the weapons you wield, but the fire within that leads to the ultimate outcome on the battlefield.  Available with Regular, Wraparound, Good Girl Nose Art, and Battle Damage Retailer Incentive covers by Matt Martin.
