Today is the final day to respond to the British Government’s AI and copyright consultation. Changes under consideration, which many creators across many creative industries oppose, will significantly change how work is protected by copyright.
As many downthetubes readers may know, the Government recently launched a consultation on AI and copyright. It also announced that its preferred solution is for a copyright exception, allowing AI companies to use your works to train their models, unless you specifically reserve your rights by opting-out.
You can respond to the consultation here until midnight tonight, Tuesday 25th February 2025

Many creators, media publishers and other organisations such as the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society don’t think this is fair or practical. They have some useful guidance here on how authors and artists can respond to protect existing copyright. If you agree, make sure your voice is heard!
The Creators Rights in AI Coalition (of which ALCS are a member) have also put together a letter writing campaign here – Safeguard Creative Rights in AI
You have until midnight tonight to respond to the consultation. You don’t need to answer every question. Let’s Make It Fair for creators!

I’ve responded to the consultation despite only being a very small creator, and I urge everyone else to do the same.
