Panini Books have teased the cover of its upcoming deluxe hardcover editions of comic strip from Doctor Who Magazine, representing the strips from the title’s very start in 1979, as Doctor Who Weekly.

Due for release on 2nd February 2027, the opening volume, Doctor Who: The Dogs of Doom: The Complete Comic Archive 1979-1980, offers a collection of era-defining tales: the iconic Fourth Doctor, played on screen by Tom Baker, encounters the likes of an eternal Roman Empire, the unpredictable anarchy of the notorious Meep, Daleks in deep space, a psychic witch capable of rewriting reality, and much more!
Created by some of Britain’s greatest comics talent, writers Pat Mills (creator of 2000AD), and John Wagner (co-creator of Judge Dredd) and artist Dave Gibbons (Martha Washington Goes to War, Rogue Trooper and Dan Dare), Panini is set to deliver timeless adventures that are essential reading for Doctor Who fans and lovers of classic comics alike.
These early strips, “The Star Beast” of course becoming the inspiration for the eponymous 2023 Doctor Who TV special, have been previously collected, The Iron Legion collection first published in 2004, and in limited edition hardback as part of of a premium subscription to The Complete History, as part of a six volume hardcover set of graphic novels with spine artwork featuring the TARDIS. But these new collections may well appeal to newcomers to Doctor Who comic strip, or those balking at the eye watering prices of previous editions on some sites, which may make the announced £29.99 for the hardcover Doctor Who: The Dogs of Doom: The Complete Comic Archive 1979-1980 more appealing.
One small addendum: the collection is listed as 160 pages in length, but archivist Paul Scoones notes that even without allowing for title, contents pages, the actual strip content from “The Iron Legion” to “The Time Witch” is 161 pages… We are seeking confirmation from Panini Books on this.
