downthetubes among nominees in ComicScene Awards 2023

Voting has opened in the ComicScene Awards 2023 – and we’re delighted that downthetubes has again been nominated in the category of “Best Comic Media”, alongside a plethora of other great comics news site.

Thank you to everyone who nominated us, and everyone working on the site, who helped us get included again this year.

Largely UK-focused, categories include Best UK Comic, both 2000AD and BEANO vying for votes, Best Crowdfunder – Killtopia, Daughters of Albion, Pilgrim – Secrets and Lies, and more, featuring; and best Comic Event,with Enniskillen Comic Con, the Lakes International Comic Festival, Lawless and Thought Bubble among others, in competition there.

ComicScene readers and subscribers nominated their favourite UK and US Comics, Crowdfunders, Original Graphic Novels. Collections, Comic Adaptations, Events and Media.

Most categories have a choice of six to choose from, but the organisers have extended the number of choices in the UK comic, crowdfunder and media categories which reflects how close the nominations were. So congratulations if you made the final cut!

The winners will be announced during I Love Comics event online at on Saturday 11th February, 2023, part of a series of events in association with ComicScene.

ComicScene has also announced a comic art exhibition at the Howden Park Centre in Livingston, and Arts Centre Comic Con in the same location on 11th March, from 10.00am to 5.00pm.

ComicScene has also released its Atomic, Brawler, ComicScene Dan Dare special on Amazon and each month you can also pick up the History of Comics Partwork. The 1986 edition is available now here

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Star Trek Explorer (previously known as Star Trek Magazine) and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War and “Dan Dare”. He’s the writer of "Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies" for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
