Just launched this week is a brand new kids magazine, DOWNLOAD, from Egmont Publishing UK, featuring an all-new comic strip, “Dan Droid“, drawn by top comic artist Steve Beckett.
This new title follows the launch of YouTube-focused magazine Oh My Vlog! earlier this year.
DOWNLOAD Magazine, on sale now in all good newsagents, costs £3.99 and includes 40 LEGO game secrets, an interview with YouTuber TheDiamondMinecart, a run-down of the funniest Netflix shows and guides for Mario Kart 8 and LEGO Jurassic World.
DOWNLOAD is the latest in the company’s ‘AllAbout’ series, targeting the six – 12 age group and will report on the biggest digital products and companies in the games industry, from toys-to-life, apps and games to YouTubers and live streaming.
Like Titan’s Totally title, the AllAbout series has a varied content range, and I’m sure Egmont will be looking closely at sales in the range and considering the possibility of new magazines if any are a major sales success.
DOWNLOAD also features “The Epic Appventures of Dan Droid”, a new comic character developed by Steve Beckett, whose credits include strips for Titan’s new HOME movie-inspired humour title and The Beano.
“I was pleased to be approached by Egmont to create a brand new character and comic strip for the magazine,” says Steve.
“‘The Epic Appventures of Dan Droid’, introduces half boy, half robot, Dan. His robot arm has a magical games console built into it allowing him to interact and have adventures with the characters that inhabit his favourite games.”
“DOWNLOAD reflects what our consumer insight shows:,” says Cally Poplak, MD of Egmont Publishing UK of the new title. “Digital is transforming children’s publishing but not in the way people expect, because children are still hungry and passionate for print.
“Following the media storm whipped up by Oh My Vlog!, what will Twitter make of DOWNLOAD, which showcases our expertise when it comes to curating digital content that reflects the interests and passions for today’s readers?”
“I’m hoping the magazine will be a hit with young readers,” says Steve, “and Dan will have many more appventures to come!”
