Fabulous Bookmark Project auction featuring unique work by hundreds of artists gets set to launch

The Bookmark Project, a fantastic charity fundraiser in aid of Katiyo Primary School in Zimbabwe, gets underway on 9th May, and items on offer include unique bookmarks featuring fantastic artwork by a huge range of artists.

The Bookmark Project is one of several projects promoted by Parklands Primary School in Leeds, which has had links with with Katiyo Primary School in rural Zimbabwe for several years.

With the help of the 1st Burley Brownies, Sharon Hattersley runs the Bookmark Project auction each year, writing to authors, illustrators, actors, sports people and musicians via post, email and twitter and ask them to doodle a bookmark – which is then auctioned to raise money for Kaityo School.

2022 will be the sixth year of the project, which has this year so far raised a fantastic £11,231 to be used to help the Katiyo School build nursery classrooms.

Artists who have contributed some 350 unique bookmarks this year include Lucy Farfot, ItsNotAboutWork, Sarah Judd, Penny Neville-Lee, Martha Lightfoot, Sarah Lovell, Eve McDonnell, Dick Melling, and many, many others. Signed books by authors such as David Walliams are also part of the auction.

You can still contribute, but Sharon needs the finished bookmarks by the end of this month – so perhaps you might want to bookmark this project for its return in 2023!

The #BookmarkProject auction goes live on 9th May 2022 and the team would love to get as much media coverage as possible to help raise as much money as possible for Katiyo Primary School.
