Mighty World of Marvel “Fantastic Four” Pin-Up art offered in upcoming Heritage auction

Two pin-up pages commissioned for Marvel UK titles, both by Al Milgrom, are coming up for sale in Heritage Auctions Comic Art & Animation Select Auction on Wednesday 11th May 2022.

Published in 1973 we have a Mr. Fantastic Pin-Up by Al Milgrom, featuring Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four, which appeared in Mighty World of Marvel #35, the first MUK title.

Also on offer is another Mighty World of Marvel Pin-Up, presumed to have been published in the 1980s by Heritage, the artist unidentified.

This fun and funny pin-up titled “The Mighty Marvel Mistakes Game!” features the Fantastic Four and Namor – wearing Aquaman’s belt?!

Marvel UK archivist and author Rob Kirby notes that despite the Heritage description, this page was published long before the 1980s – actually appearing in MWOM #10, one of several new puzzle pages from that period.

The artist is (just) identified at the very top of the artboard – ‘milg’ meaning Milgrom.

Both artworks are in a good condition given their age – but check out the auction links for full descriptions.

Bidding begins on 4th May. The auction which also includes original art by John Buscema, Virgil Finlay, George Perez, Dave Sim and many others, as well as comics and Walt Disney animation art, takes place on Wednesday 11th May.

  1. That second page was also published long before the 1980s in the early days of MWOM, and was one of several new puzzle pages from that period, this one featuring in #10. The artist is (just) identified at the very top of the artboard – ‘milg’ meaning Milgrom.

  2. Lovely stuff 🙂 Don’t think I’ve ever noticed the Thing’s ear before 🙂
