Over on the awesome FANSCENE British Comic zine archive, curator David Hathaway-Price has added online only resources offering a fantastic snapshot of early comic retailing in the UK.
Now added to the site are two early Forbidden Planet catalogues, published thanks to zine collectors thanks to Peter Hansen, and the late Trevor Hughes, both featuring covers by a young Brian Bolland.
Back then the focus of the London-based retailer – then operating just one shop, in Denmark Street – was very firmly on comics. Forbidden Planet’s offering, across stores in several UK cities, is much wider today.
“I’m not sure how interested people are in price lists, but the covers to these are lovely,” David says.
If you are interested in reading the lists, you can find the read only PDFs here on FANSCENE
