Frank Bellamy “Life Study” offered on eBay

There’s a rare chance to purchase one of TV Century 21 and Garth artist Frank Bellamy’s life studies over on eBay, art given to the seller by his wife.

Frank Bellamy “Life Study”

On his invaluable Frank Bellamy Checklist and Blog, Norman Boyd has frequently documented many life studies sold at auction over the past few years, and previously noted that Bellamy ran a life class whilst at Blamires’ Studio in Kettering – his first art job – which was a modest affair (“in both senses of the word!”, he commented back in 2008) and also, later, for the Studio Club, Piccadilly, London.

The club was run for artists and musicians, and was situated in the basement of 15, Swallow Street, and was founded in 1915. “I believe it was during the late Fifties and early Sixties that he committed loads of sketches of the female form to paper (I’m trying to avoid words that web-blockers will block!).”

Nancy Bellamy sold a number of these life studies after Frank’s death in 1976.

Most of Bellamy’s life studies sell for relatively moderate prices compared with his comic strip art, and bidding is currently just £100, although expect that to rise.
