This idea sounds like a great model for other Local Comic Shops to check out – if they don’t have something similar already. Marking “Star Wars Day” (taking place every 4th May, aka “May the Fourth”), Gosport-based Vanguard Comics has launched Gosport Cantina in partnership with fan David Wilson-Smith, intended as a real world community for comics, graphic novels and screen related media enthusiasts.
“Comics and graphic novels have always held a special place in our hearts, bringing stories to life with vibrant illustrations and compelling narratives. Recognising the need for a community where enthusiasts can share their passion and insights, David Wilson-Smith has collaborated with Vanguard Comics to establish a new group for comic book lovers in Gosport and the surrounding areas,” the store team say.
“Our primary goal is to create a congenial environment where fans of comic books, graphic novels, and all related genres can come together to discuss, promote, and celebrate their love for this wonderful art form. Through regular meetings and discussions, we aim to delve into various titles, explore intriguing storylines, and appreciate the artistry behind these works.
Planned upcoming activities include regular gatherings to discuss favourite comics and graphic novels, Group Cinema Visits, to watch comic book adaptations and related films, and hosting watch parties for popular comic book-based series and movies.
Vanguard Comics organisers of Gosport Comic Con, also hopes to launch their own podcast, to also discuss various aspects of comics, graphic novels and screen related media.
