US network Fox has announced an early renewal for its Batman prequel series Gotham at the Television Critics Association‘s annual press event highlighting new and returning TV shows over the weekend.
The series – one of several successful DC Comics small screen adaptations – screens on Channel 5 in the UK and returns to our screens in the Spring.
Fox also renewed Empire and announced a third season for Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Gotham is the number one broadcast drama among M18-49 and M18-34 in the US.
In Gotham, Jim Gordon (played by Ben McKenzie) is a rising detective in corrupt Gotham City, where his late father was a successful district attorney. Brave, honest and determined to prove himself, Jim hopes to return the city to the glamorous, purer version he remembers as a child. He and his partner, legendary Detective Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), must navigate the dirty politics of Gotham’s justice system, even as they tackle a high-profile case, the murder of billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne. Gordon becomes a friend to their young orphan, Bruce.
