This year’s Graphic Brighton symposium will be taking place on 3rd and 4th May at the University of Brighton City Campus – and features a great line up of independent comic creators.
The two day event will be a mixture of talks, panel discussions and workshops on the subject of educational comics, where comics are used to inform readers about a variety of ideas and topics, including historical biography, scientific research, medicinal practices, architecture, university research and risk management in business.
Comic creators talking about their practice at the symposium will include Ian Williams, Chris Geary, Ottilie Hainsworth, Richy K. Chandler, Warren Pleece, Alison Sampson, Owen Pomery, Muna Al-Jawad, Ben Dickson, Daniel Locke and Comics Laureate Hannah Berry.
Researchers and comics lecturers who will be discussing the use of comics in their research, teaching and their dissemination of ideas include Ian Horton (UAL), George Hardie (Brighton), Ian Hornsby (Chichester), Louisa Buck (Brighton), Paul Fisher Davies (Sussex), John Miers (UAL) and Justin Wadlow (Picardy).
Architects Jacquelyn Jubert and Joe Robson from AVR Practice (London) will also be joining Alison Sampson and Owen Pomery to discuss the depiction of architecture in comics and its possibility as a tool for explaining design work.
