We’ve had the brilliant NICE International Comic Convention (back for its fifth year on 3-4th of September at the Bedford Corn Exchange) on our downthetubes calendar for a while now, but here’s a more obvious reminder of the event, world renowned among comics professionals for having a peerless guest list, but within an intimate and family friendly setting.
Headlining the convention this year is Greg Tocchini, who has been wowing comics fans with his stunning artwork on underwater fantasy series Low. Tocchini has also collaborated with Low author Rick Remender on the acclaimed noir series Last Days of American Crime, as well as providing gorgeous cover art on Vertigo’s Hinterkind series.
Other featured artists include NICE favourite Esad Ribić, (Thor: God of Thunder, Secret Wars), best known for his distinctive watercolour style, and John Bolton (Hellraiser, Evil Dead, Batman), whose dark fantasy artwork has seen him collaborate with some of the best horror and fantasy writers in the business (including Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, and fellow NICE attendee Jamie Delano).
Returning to NICE after a year’s absence is the phenomenal talent of Guillem March (Gotham City Sirens, Catwoman, Batman, Talon).
Among the 30 plus guests at this year’s convention – and it’s a impressive list! – there will be a formidable contingent of 2000AD creators, including Simon Bisley, Doug Braithwaite, former editor, now James Bond writer Andy Diggle, Dylan Teague and Jugde Dredd co-creator John Wagner, plus Preacher artist Steve Dillon, and Marvel favourite Adi Granov.
“Whatever the comics you love are, there will be something for you at NICE 2016,” enthuses organiser Jeff Chahal. “As ever, all signatures are free of charge; you only pay your entrance fee. Sketch fees vary by artist”.
• Tickets for NICE 201cost just £15 for a day, or £25 for a weekend pass. Tickets for children under 14 are only £1, but they must be accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
• Tickets and further information, including the full guest list, are available at the conventions website www.nicecon.co.uk | Find NICE on Facebook | Follow NICE on Twitter @NICEConv
