UK-based eBay seller World of Superheroes is currently offering a treasure trove of Doctor Who artwork created for Doctor Who Weekly and Doctor Who Monthly by Dave Gibbons, featuring both the Fourth and Fifth Doctor.
All the pages were penciled and inked by Dave Gibbons, drawn on Bristol Board, some recently sold, including three covers for the Marvel Comics US reprint Doctor Who comic, with the cover of #11 still available, priced at £8000.
Every interior page is being offered at £2500, but “Best Offer” bids are also available.
Of interest to the wider world of Who fans may be the pages from Doctor Who Weekly, featuring characters rumoured to be appearing in the upcoming TV anniversary special.
Pages also on offer include boards from Dave’s last regular Doctor Who strip, “The Stars fell on Stockbridge”, featuring the Fifth Doctor.

It’s fascinating to see these pages. The art bears modification made for the 1984-85 Marvel US reprints. I was aware that Dave Gibbons had loaned his original pages for these reprints, but it’s surprising to see that alterations were made to the actual art. This is most apparent from the page numbers stuck on the bottom which match those in the US editions. In the case of issue 61 page 14, the wording “Next issue: The Maelstrom!” has been blanked out with a piece of paper or tape stuck over the top. The auction descriptions however match the issues and page numbers of the original UK printings – with one error: “Page 2” from Doctor Who Weekly #21 is actually page 4 of that issue.
Ah, for the days when you could pick up this sort of stuff in Comics Showcase for £25 not £2500! 🙂
Well, now you have to look out for the amazing artists whose work will fly in the future, although, with much work now created digitally, there is less physical art to buy.
