There’s great news for fans of the teen comic Joe and His Killer Robot Dad, launched back in 2020 – it’s back!
Veteran 2000AD artist Mick McMahon is part of a team that includes Mark Mosedale, Steve Green and Steven Sterlacchini of Planet Replicas, working on the multimedia comics project, Joe and his Killer Robot Dad.
In the first issue of Joe and His Killer Robot Dad, a comic book for ages pre-teen and up, young ‘orphan’ Joe was stunned when he is woken by a huge killer robot sitting on the end of his dormitory bed, but when the fearsome automaton declares that he is in fact Joe’s ‘deceased’ father, things really get crazy!
There’s no time for a reunion before the duo must bust out of ‘War School’ and go on the run. Pursued by a fanatical human colonel on one side and a dogmatic robot commander on the other.
The first issue was described by downthetubes reviewer Luke Williams as “a little edgy, smart, funny and looks wonderful”, and, earlier this week, the project team announced that the team were finally on with the following issues of Joe and His Killer Robot Dad and will be posting mini stories and some cool bits and pieces soon.
The title is supported by a range of merchandise and collectables, if you’re hankering for something special for Christmas, why not grab a copy of the limited run (just 55 copies) of Joe and His Killer Robot Dad “Comic Stuff”, while you still can?
Just like the now sold out US format first issue and the still available larger UK newsstand comic – with badges! – Joe and His Killer Robot Dad “Comic Stuff” is only available from Leeds-based OK Comics, here.
The 30-page comic (including covers) includes three mini stories, some of Mick McMahon’s concept work, posters and other stuff.. and each issue is hand finished with dyno labels! (“We won’t be doing that again!” say the weary team).
Oh, and if you’re into skateboarding, how about a Killer Robot skateboard, a “rad colab” between Grandad Skateboards and Mick McMahon?
With specially created Joe and His Killer Robot artwork by Mick McMahon, these cool decks are available in full colour and screen printed (for the purists) variants. Check out Grandadskateboards.com to purchase!
