Independent comics publisher Pigdog Press has confirmed the release of the first issue of their brand new limited fantasy adventure series, Killing Moon Rises, making its exclusive debut at the Thought Bubble Festival, in Harrogate, on Saturday 13th November, then afterwards from Comicsy, Etsy and selected retailers.
Brought to life thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, this gothic action fantasy adventure follows on directly from the shocking events that concluded the original run of Killing Moon. There, an elite band of assassins found themselves embroiled in a conspiracy that will lead them to the ultimate test of their murderous skills. But how do you kill a God?
Series artist and publisher Neil ‘Bhuna’ Roche (Vanguard, Massacre for Boys, Zarjaz) is back with this new adventure, joined by writer Chris Denton (Massacre for Boys, Something Wicked), artist / colourist Darren Stephens (Sonic the Hedgehog, FutureQuake, Phoenix Comics) and letterer extraordinaire, the late Bolt-01 (FutureQuake, Something Wicked, Zarjaz, Dogbreath).
“Killing Moon Rises issue 1 begins a four-part saga of love and death,” says Neil. “Well, mostly death!
“In ‘The First Cut’, Moses Valentine and the team literally go to hell and back, but that’s just the start of a journey that will ultimately take them to the precipice of apocalypse.”
Included with every installment will be a brand new support strip, a self-contained “Tale of the Killing Moon”. To get things started with a bang, “Warwick & Ajax” sees Moses face a big, big problem.
“And by ‘problem’,” teases Neil, “we mean ‘monster'”!
This latest series is dedicated to Dave “Bolt-01” Evans, who was a key member of the team behind Killing Moon, “and was our dear friend,” Neil muses, “and the character of Bol-Tone has also been added to the Killing Moon roster, in tribute.”
The characters in Killing Moon originally appeared in a 1980s Manchester comic called Totally Alien, and revived with a new creative team in 2015.
The graphic novel collection of the first series launched on Kickstarter in May 2020 and smashed its funding target within 24 hours. The book is currently available from Comicsy and Etsy.
In addition to the core team, some of the UK’s best small press artists and up and coming comic professionals will also be contributing to Killing Moon Rises, including Alex Mines (Topps), Conor Boyle (2000AD), Neil McClements (Aces Weekly) and Steven Denton (2000AD).
