Lancaster University to host “Harnessing the Mind – Expanding Your Comic Creative Practice” with Lucy Sullivan

Lancaster University Comic Creators Event

Are you an emerging comic artist or illustrator? Then why not join the Lakes International Comic Art Festival and Lancaster University next month, as they host a free online workshop exploring potential new areas that could support your professional practice.

The workshop focuses on one big social issue, that of mental health, to exemplify two different practices, with the aim to help you think about the issue you are interested in and how this could expand your creative practice.

Co-ordinating the workshop will be Lucy Sullivan, creator of Barking, a critically acclaimed comic about grief, madness and the ghosts that haunt us. She will describe the journey of Barking from idea to self-published comic; through getting a publisher and crowdfunding the graphic novel with 200+ backers, an Arts Council grant and sponsorship.

Joining her will be Dr Natasa Lackovic, Lecturer at the Department of Educational Research, Lancaster University; and creator of Things & the Mind, with artist Andi Setiawan and students, the world’s first interactive comic on student mental health, about the opportunities to work with academics and universities.

The workshop will be interactive and seek to engage participants in discussion about how these themes could develop creatives professional development.

To join the workshop on 7th December 2021 at 11.00am simply register here via EventBrite
