Voting for the David Gemmell Awards for Fantasy closes tomorrow at midnight on Friday 17th July 2015.

Now in their seventh year, the awards, open to readers’ votes, recognise and promote writers and artists in the fantasy field. The organisers believe it’s an important genre as well as a broad one. So did David Gemmell, who during his lifetime was the biggest seller of heroic fantasy in the UK. His best-selling novels did spectacularly well around the globe, both in English and dozens of other languages.

Gemmell supported and encouraged new authors and artists as well as being part of the pantheon of great fantasy writers worldwide. In that spirit, and to honour the man himself, The David Gemmell Awards for Fantasy offer three prizes annually and this year’s shortlist comprises:

  • Half a King by Joe Abercrombie
  • Valour by John Gwynne
  • Prince of Fools by Mark Lawrence
  • Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson
  • The Broken Eye by Brent Weeks

  • Traitor’s Blade by Sebastien de Castell
  • The Mirror Empire by Kameron Hurley
  • The Godless by Ben Peek
  • The Emperor’s Blades by Brian Stavely
  • The Age of Iron by Angus Watson

  • Laura Brett for The Slow Regard of Silent Things
  • Mike Bryan for Half a King
  • Jason Chan for Prince of Fools
  • Sam Green for Words of Radiance
  • Jackie Morris for The Fool’s Assassin

Attracting a wide host of writers and publishing professionals, the glitzy ceremony, which will take place at Nine Worlds Geekfest on 8th August at the Radisson, Heathrow, is always a highlight of the fantasy fiction calendar.

The convention itself is one of the UK’s largest genre conventions and a highly anticipated event for readers, writers and fans of fantasy and science-fiction.

Stan Nicholls, Chair for the Gemmell Awards, said: “I couldn’t think of a better event for us to partner with than Nine Worlds, and we look forward to bringing another superb awards ceremony not only to our regular attendees, but also a whole new audience on August 8th.”

“Nine Worlds is immensely proud to be hosting the 2015 Gemmell Awards,” said Erich Schultz, co-founder of Nine Worlds Geekfest.

“The Gemmells play a terrific and important role in the fantasy literary scene, and the Nine Worlds team and attendees are hugely excited to be a part of this wonderful institution.”

Members of the public wishing to attend the ceremony will be able to do so for free, but will not have access to any of the other exciting events over the weekend.
