Future Primitive is a new, “digital first” series set to launch from Markosia very soon, and based on the artwork and premise former Image and Marvel creator Kevin Gunstone sent over, featuring art by by rising Serbian talent Slobodan “Bobann” Jovanovic, we reckon you should definitely look out for this one when it arrives on the Comixology platform.
(Updated 23/7/14), added link to comic on Comixology): Starting this month or next – the exact launch dependent on Comixology’s schedules – Future Primitive (which also features colour by Matteo Baldrighi and lettering and design by Patrick Foster) chronicles the last story of an Earth where a supernova has transformed life on the planet’s surface – triggering a worldwide hominid metamorphosis and spawning weird, hybrid intelligences.
On this strangely mutated Earth, Kulkan, last warrior king of the Neanderthal ‘Skybearers’, investigates abductions on their furthermost borders. Assisted by his half-brother, Xotol of the Dead, they discover sacrifices dedicated to Chodesh, Moon Mother of the bloodthirsty Australopith ‘Clan’. A lunar apparition has fueled the Clan’s bloodlust, but the scientifically advanced Skybearers realise they are witnessing the first signs of the mutating supernova’s resultant shockwave – a devastating force set to obliterate the world it once transformed.
Set in an age outside of time, Future Primitive is described as – and certainly looks like! – “a spectacular, dynamic, and hallucinatory stonepunk adventure that follows Kulkan as he battles for the survival of his unique civilization and the preservation of their ‘Memory of Being’ – the sacred cave images relaying Skybearer history and myths – and in which he will find a tantalizing clue…”
Kevin Gunstone has numerous writing credits under his belt, including issues of Warrior Nun and The Agents, published by Antarctic Press and Marvel Mangaverse: Eternity Twilight.
As well as drawing Future Primitive, Slobodan Jovanovic is working with writer Scott R. Schmidt on Steele Vs., an adventure comic from Pistol Whip Press starring Sam Steele a North West Canadian Mountie, which has just gained Kickstarter funding.
Published by Markosia Enterprises, and available through Comixology and other digital outlets, Future Primitive is an intriguing series set to run for five issues with a print collection to follow. Definitely worthy of investigation, we’d say – there’s a dedicated facebook page alrrady live with more information ( www.facebook.com/FuturePrimitiveComic) or you can follow the project on Twitter: https://twitter.com/FPrimitiveComic
