The second issue of Comics Rule OK is now available, offering another eclectic take on British comics from a great lineup of writers, published by The Long River Company.
Edited by Justin Marriott, available in print exclusively through Amazon, this 56-page features an interview with publisher Dez Skinn about his groundbreaking anthology title Warrior, launched back in 1982 and still fondly remembered, particularly for its revival of Marvelman, renamed Miracleman when first republished in the United States; “V for Vendetta”, created by Alan Moore and David Lloyd; and “The Bojeffies Saga”, created by Moore and Steve Parkhouse.
Also included in CROK Issue Two is a feature by Jim O’Brien on the Action comic future sport strip, “Death Game 1999” written by Tom Tully, based on an idea by Geoff Kemp with art, variously, by Costa and Massimo Belardinelli, with Ian Gibson and John Stokes (the strip profiled here by Moose Harris on downthetubes); and the Lion comic strip “ Flame O’ The Forest”, also drawn by Massimo Belardinelli. First published in 1970, this bloodthirsty adventure was set in Norman England after Harold’s defeat at Hastings. The hooded Saxon hero of the title fought against the invaders by using skills including magic tricks and archery.
Justin also takes a look at cavemen in comics and the long-running space adventurer, Jet Ace Logan and the Smash strip, “The 13 Tests of Simon Test”; plus there are profiles of the brilliant graphic storyteller, Raymond Briggs, creator of Fungus the Bogeyman, When The Wind Blows,,and more, and adult comics artist Brian Forbes.
