The New Zealand Mint has released the first of six Thunderbirds 50 Years 1oz silver coins to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic show created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, soon to be revived with new show Thunderbirds Are Go!
Delivered in a Thunderbirds-themed coin case, the highly collectible coin featuring a gold-plated Thunderbirds 50th Anniversary logo has a Limited Mintage of only 5,000 coins and marks the launch of the company’s 2015 Thunderbirds programme, with six silver coins due for release over the coming months.
New Zealand Mint chief executive Simon Harding says the company’s design team really enjoyed the challenge of working on the project and translating the iconic Thunderbirds designs onto silver coins.
“We believe that Thunderbirds fans and collectors will be thrilled to see the coin series revealed over the next few months,” he commented.
Thunderbirds is just the latest license for the mint, which also produced Doctor Who and Disney-related coins.
• The first coin release is now available at www.nzmint.com, priced at £55
