Master Replicas has just opened orders for its second, limited edition medium-sized Dalek: the “Skaro City Dalek“, the original Dalek that made its debut in 1963 in the first Doctor Who story to feature the cyborgs, generally known as “The Dead Planet”.
Powered by static electricity, these silver Daleks were restricted to their city on Skaro, but were every bit as deadly and evil as their descendants. This new model was sculpted by Dalek expert Gavin Rymill and is 185 mm tall.
Made of polystone, the model, which is in scale with the previously-announced “Bronze Dalek“, has a detailed gun and manipulator arm, both of which are attached by magnets. In an upgrade on Eaglemoss models, it has transparent “ears”.
Orders for both Daleks will begin to ship in mid November 2024 and stock is limited.
These Dalek releases are accompanied by other Doctor Who-related items from Master Replicas, such as their first ship from the series, the Dalek saucer from 2005’s “The Parting of the Ways” – an impressive polyresin model, 21 cm across.
The Daleks used saucers with a similar design in the TV Century 21 “The Daleks” comic strip, but in the 1960s TV budgets didn’t stretch to expensive spaceship models. The classic Dalek ship only made its debut in 2005 when a massive fleet of Dalek ships prepared to invade Earth. The ship was made as a 3D CG model by the Mill. Master Replicas again recruited Gavin Rymill to recreate the ships using renders made at the time and careful study of the episodes.
