In this month’s Panel Borders show, actor Geoff McGivern talks to Alex Fitch about taking on the role of Dan Dare‘s companion Digby in the radio adaptations of the classic Eagle comic strips produced by B7 Media.

Geoff is a British television and voice actor who studied at Cambridge and was involved in Footlights and the Marlowe Society while there.
He is best known for his characterisation of Ford Prefect in the radio series of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. His television credits include Blackadder the Third, Jonathan Creek, the sci-fi comedy Hyperdrive and Trince in This is Jinsy. More recently, he’s appeared in the Channel 4 sitcom Back, written by Simon Blackwell, alongside David Mitchell and Robert Webb and played the recurring role of Frank in the Netflix series, Free Rein.
“It’s an effable delight to play Digby in Dan Dare,” Geoff declared when his role as Digby was first announced, also revealing he is convinced Douglas Adams was inspired by the Eagle comic strip the new audio adventures are based on. “I’m sure Hitch Hiker’s came out of Douglas reading Dan Dare, because he was the same age as me, and created his own take.”
Jude Cowan Montague
Also on Panel Borders, artist and broadcaster Jude Cowan Montague discusses her forthcoming comics and illustrated poetry, in a Q and A recorded at LDComics.
Jude is an artist, writer and composer with a multi-media practice that crosses disciplines, active in new printmaking, installation (she was awarded the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers’ graduate prize, 2014 – 2016), poetry, prose fiction, film history, vocal work and performance. She is also a broadcaster and curates and hosts The News Agents, a weekly hybrid news-arts show on Resonance 104.4 FM.
She is known for her innovative work with international news agency output. This practice developed while working as an archivist for the Reuters Television Archive. Her first collection, For the Messengers (Donut Press 2011) re-formed edits from the Reuters output during 2008 as individual poems.
Love on the Isle of Dogs, Jude’s true story about her marriage to a man who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia is due for release this year, a poetic tale told in pictures.
Her album The Leidenfrost Effect (Folkwit Records 2015, available through Bandcamp) was co-composed with Dutch producer Wim Oudijk and reimagines quirky stories from the Reuters Life! feed.

He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
