Paragon Comic reaches Issue 25 – and what a silver special, too!

Not many small press comics reach 25 issues these days. Heck, not many comics from anywhere reach 25 issues, either – but Paragon, the smashing adventure anthology, did just that recently, and the first run of the print edition deservedly sold out very quickly.

Celebrating its silver jubilee and still going strong Paragon #25 , edited by Davey Candlish, features a cover announcing the return of Bludd & Xandi to the comic.

Inside, the celestial agents are sent to hell to question their prisoner…

“Bludd & Xandi” is written by Mark J Howard, with art by Thomas Newell and colours by Karen Holloway.

Spencer Nero – the British hero obsessed with all things ancient Roman – celebrates by joining forces with Captain Winston Bulldog (the anthropomorphic defender of the skies above Blighty) in a double length adventure, “Spencer Nero vs. Britain“.

Join the heroes as they join forces to defeat the politician who wants to rid the land of foreigners by burning them in a giant WG Grace shaped wicker man!

Written by Greg Meldrum with art by Scott Twells, yes, it is as bonkers, – and as utterly brilliant – as it sounds!

Plus, paranormal investigator Eldritch makes his Paragon debut!

Created by Commando comic contributor and small press stalwart Jason Cobley, Eldritch receives a package which states it contains a unicorn egg. Surely not?!

Paragon is always an entertaining read – and this anniversary issue more than continues that tradition. Go on, treat yersel’!

John Freeman

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.

He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
