Rare Eagle, Beano and Commando comics on offer in latest ComPalComics auction

Eagle Vol 1 No 1 (1950) Pre-publication proof. This printer's proof copy was run off at Sun Printers in Watford to check registration and colour balance of the comic before main production of the Eagle was started by Eric Bemrose in Liverpool who had installed a new Rotogravure print-line for this purpose. As such this Sun Printers copy is a rarity; it is worn and untrimmed with roller marks and cost notes to the cover margin

This catalogue also offers annuals from the Brenda Butler archive, a collection she started in the early 1970s when she collected only the highest grade available pieces concentrating on DC Thomson’s prodigious output. These items were logged, stored and lovingly read over a 40 year period and are now coming onto the market for the first time.

One of the stars from the archive is a pristine copy of the first Dandy Monster Comic from 1939, originally a DC Thomson / John Leng ‘library’ copy and verified as such by them. You’ll find it at lot 18 followed by the second annual, also a library copy, along with a superb 1953 Oor Wullie Book at lot 120 as well as several more beauties in between.
