Rebellion seeks Junior Graphic Novel Editor as second 2000AD Regened Prog released for 2020

Rebellion, the UK’s leading comic and graphic novel publisher, is looking for a Junior Graphic Novel Editor to join its busy publishing department. The full job specification follows below.

The recruitment drive comes in the same week as 2000AD issues its second Regened Prog of 2020 (Prog 2183), on sale now, featuring “Cadet Dredd”, “Anderson, Psi-Division”, “Finder & Keeper”, “Future Shocks”, and “Strontium Dog”.

Presented by Tharg’s young nephew, Joko-Jargo, the issue kicks off with another “Cadet Dredd” tale, this time from Matt Smith and Nicolo Assirelli, as Joe undergoes the first of his Routine Combat Assessments that will determine his effectiveness on the dangerous streets of Mega-City One.

Fellow Judge Cassandra Anderson also returns, courtesy of Cavan Scott and Paul Davidson, investigating suspicious goings-on amongst some very well-behaved schoolchildren.

Elsewhere, ghost-hunters Eliot and Meera are back in “Finder & Keeper” by John Reppion and David Tinto, tackling a haunted block of flats, and the comic also heads back to the early days of Johnny Alpha in “Strontium Dog: Acceptable Losses” by Mike Carroll and Nick Brokenshire, revealing a mission he undertook when he first joined the Mutant Army. Plus there’s a one-off tale of a miscreant monarch in a “Future Shock” from Laura Bailey and Andrea Mutti.

Rebellion, the UK’s leading comic and graphic novel publisher, is looking for a Junior Graphic Novel Editor to join its busy publishing department

Candidates should have experience of editorial work in publishing, not necessarily in comics, and a keen interest in comics and graphic novels. An informed interest in 2000 AD and British comic books is an advantage. The role involves contributing to the selection of forthcoming titles and overseeing the design and production of graphic novels.

The successful applicant will be able to write publishing copy for book blurbs, be a good communicator, have meticulous attention to detail and a desire to research and learn more about our rich and unexplored catalogue of comics. Relevant experience and proficiency in InDesign and general CMS knowledge will be an advantage.

This role is full-time, based in-house at our Oxford headquarters. You must be able to legally work in the UK.

Requirements

– Excellent knowledge grammar and copy writing
– Familiarity with Indesign will be useful
– Excellent initiative, self-motivation, organisational and problem solving skills
– A comprehensive understanding of visual design
– Excellent communication skills, as well as team working and the ability to accept and follow direction

The successful candidate will come with or be required to swiftly develop a broad knowledge of our archive and back catalogue

Duties will include

– Briefing designs for graphic novels
– Contributing to the selection of graphic novels from 2000 AD strips and Rebellions comics archive
– Checking comic strip pages for print
– Paginating graphic novels
– Making corrections and proofing print PDFs
– Assembling advance title information for new books and writing cover and sales copy, inputting that into a CMS
– Generating special edition and merchandise ideas
