Rewriting Earth, the innovative environmental storytelling charity, publishers of The Most Important Comic Book in the World anthology, is a chosen charity for the Big Give’s Green Match Fund 2024. All donations made to Rewriting Earth via the Big Give will be doubled for one week only, the support offer running until 25th April 2024.
The money raised will go to the ‘Rapid Response Lab’, creating immediate, entertaining environmental content with some of the world’s best creators, in Rewriting Earth’s trademark style. Rapid Response Lab content will react to the news agenda in ways that move, outrage and motivate the general public to be more environmentally engaged.
The Green Match Fund support comes hot on the heels of The Most Important Comic Book in the World getting published in German, as Der wichtigste Comic der Welt. Geschichten zur Rettung des Planeten, in partnership with Panini Verlags. The German edition includes and additional story by artist and activist Timo Wuerz.
“A lot of people have sacrificed and worked so so hard to bring this into existence,” says Rewriting Extinction’s Paul Goodenough, of the German edition, “and I owe Timo Wuerz and Anastasia Rice a lifetime of drinks!”
Rewriting Earth works to shift the dial from an intangible narrative to tangible solutions that the average time-poor person can relate to. Entertainment and social media are some of the most powerful tools for reaching audiences not typically engaged in environmental issues, and the Rewriting Earth team feel the environmental sector operates in its own echo chamber. As a result, it overlooks the mainstream audiences needed to create the groundswell of public support required to bring about urgent change.
Rewriting Earth relies on funding to help create content that harnesses the power of social media to deliver big environmental subjects in highly emotive, visual, shareable formats to mainstream audiences.
Some of Rewriting Earth’s achievements to date include 150 million plus social media engagements, one million signatures generated; we have helped to protect over 600 species and enabled the purchase of 3,300 hectares of huge biodiverse importance; and, of course, the publication of The Most Important Comic Book on Earth, which became an instant Number One bestseller when it launched in 2021 and was chosen as a Sunday Times Book of the Year.
